Harare. (News of The South)- Zimbabwe launched the Women Bank on Monday in Harare amid ecstasy and ululations from a multitude bevy of women from all corners of the country.

Zimbabwe Women Micro-Finance Bank has been much awaited for. It has been launched at the fruition stage of some women projects which critically need finance to grow.




Officially opening the doors of the bank at the launch, His Excellence Emerson Mnangagwa urged women to severely bow down indolence, knuckle down and work hard.

The bank which is head-quartered in Harare is located at the Trust Towers Building along Samora Machel Avenue. This is the first branch which shall see a track of its following developments in the country.

The President, Emerson Mnangagwa said this has come at a time the country is busy luring Investors to come for lucrative projects which are open in the country.

‘’The country is open for business and ready to welcome Investors in all sectors of the Economy. The coming in of this development shares a moment of opportunities for women to get a thrust to move on and prosper in the light of some other foreign business people.
‘’Women must therefore rise and take center stage to show resilience against any forms of drawbacks which may pull them out of business”

‘’Since this is 100% Government Bank , we shall stand as well to push the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe give all the support like it did to give it a License’’, he said.

Speaking as well to show her gratitude as the Minister of Women Affairs , Gender and Community Development Minister , Sithembiso Nyoni said the bank will bring substantive economic empowerment which stands vital to bear as human fruits people of decision making positions.

‘’The only tool to kill any form of poverty, abuse and under-development is empowering a women. The point is , empowering a women , you are making the country become economically stable , she said.

Giving her remarks, Mirriam Chikukwa , Minister of State Affairs for Harare Metropolitan Province said the bank is to save the needs of the women . The bank shall give help, lend money without favor , even to those who do not have strong collateral security.

‘’Our vision is to be the leading bank of the country with the goal to eradicate poverty and develop women projects for economic growth in the Region.

‘’We talk of the Region at large, apart from talking about ourselves. We want to witness this development in other SADC countries as well said Mirriam.

United Nations Country Representative Bishow Parajuli said the International Organization has been behind the development of the bank right straight from the beginning. The UN has this support because it seeks to promote Human Development through support of financial assistance.

‘’The United Nations has to push for this unique development because development of women economically eradicates all forms of poverty in Africa. Women have been undermined in terms of social, economic and political development.

‘’Zimbabwe has shown its commitment in terms of promoting the success of the Sustainable Development Goals. These are the only set-ups at global level which lifts us out of poverty.’
‘’In other words , Zimbabwe has gone long in winning the goals like on Education , Health , Women Empowerment , Community Development , Energy and Environment.”

The Bank Chief Executive Officer , Mrs Mandasi Marikanda said women have become people of decision making , influential experts with more academic education but they lack financial resources , capacity building and inputs to start be it Small Scale Businesses, Agriculture and Mining.

‘’This is for the women sources of credit to make them become Business Leaders, be part of Presidium, become Ministers and Members of Parliament.




‘’Women now have access to affordable finance through Agent and Mobile Banking in the country .The most aspect to look at is training women in becoming Business people . What they need is Micro-Finance which is attractive and affordable’ ‘she concluded.

The Bank has a body of Directors who take the mandate to manage with accountability and transparency. The Risk Management Control Body will make the Bank face a fair direction. It is there to get to marginalized communities.
