Uganda, Amuru. Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president Mugisha Muntu has warned that “President Museveni’s soaring appetite for power will not escape God’s wrath.”

Maj Gen (rtd) Muntu described President Museveni as a power-hungryman who will never listen to anyone who agitates for change.

“Mr Museveni will not escape God’s judgment because of the suffering people have gone through. How can he keep on handing power to himself all these years. God is not happy with him at all and he will be punished for letting people go to the edge. Things in the country are bad and he doesn’t care,” Gen Muntu said.

He was campaigning for Ms Lucy Akello, the Opposition joint candidate for the Amuru by-election, where he claimed Mr Museveni pushed for the scrapping of term limits from the Constitution so that he rules for life.

“I became so frustrated with President Museveni when I learnt about the move to amend the Constitution (to remove term limits) in 2001. I got disappointed with the whole plan and warned Mr Museveni face-to-face against such intention since it was contrary to the agenda that took us to the bush,” Gen Muntu told residents of Bibia Parish, Atiak Sub-county in Amuru District on Thursday.

The FDC chief asked the voters in Amuru to participate in the forthcoming elections describing it as “hope for change for the people of Uganda.” He said a victory for the Opposition in Amuru will build confidence among Ugandans across the country that peaceful change is possible without firing a single bullet.

Democratic Party president, Mr Nobert Mao said change is inevitable and “President Museveni will go whether he likes it or not.”

Mr Mao noted that the question at the moment is not about the departure of Mr Museveni from power but about the nature of the transition Uganda will have; peaceful or not.

He described President Museveni as “a bad household head who is not caring about the members of his household.”

Ms Akello, the united Opposition candidate, is facing off with Ms Jane Frances Okili Amongi (NRM) and Ms Suzan Adokorach (Conservative Party), among others. Independent candidates are Ms Josephine Atim, Ms Caroline Aber and Pauline Achan.

When contacted, Media Centre boss Ofwono Opondo said President Museveni gets mandate from Ugandans every after five years and that is why he has remained in power. “I welcome him (Muntu) from political limbo. Where he has been? Let him who doesn’t like power, retire to Kajara,” Mr Opondo said.
