Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-Norton Legislator Temba Mliswa has formally registered his complaint against the granting of bail to suspected murderer Nhamo Mafundera who allegedly killed his former wife Bertha Chimutu in Norton last month.
Mliswa wrote a letter to Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi questioning why the South Africa based man was granted bail when he was a flight risk whilst he had also admitted to the crime.
“Whilst I’m aware that a person is innocent until proven guilty and that bail is either denied or granted based on several factors. I found the circumstances sorrounding Mr Mafundire’s bail granting very perplexing based on the following.”
“Over and above the late victim identifying the culprit with her dying breath Mr Mafundire further implied his guilt in police custody.”
Mliswa stated that Mafundire’s currently resides in South Africa thereby making him a potential flight risk.
Mafundire allegedly stabbed his former wife several times in a grisly murder case that shook the Norton town.
Last week members of the community organised and held a march before delivering a petition to Mliswa, questioning the course justice has taken in the case whilst also advocating for women’s rights.
Cases of domestic violence have increased and according to the combative legislator the treatment of Chimutu’s case in a seeming flippant manner questions the entire justice system and the protection of women.0
