Message of condolence following recent tragic events in the country.

The MDC-T family is saddened to learn of the tragic loss of life following a spike of different accidents throughout the country. We are in deep shock and continuous grief on the accidents that occurred in the country leaving hundreds of people dead and maimed. We express our deepest sorrow on innocent lives of citizens who passed on so suddenly. The disasters sadden us even more to see families and children losing breadwinners in a nation that is in deep economic crisis.

We appeal to all those who are responsible for transporting people to observe road rules diligently and to always have a clear look out on any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts that human beings in the moment of error or ignorance may do. That said, it is imperative, that all traffic rules be observed, buses must be thoroughly searched for any items such as filled gas tanks that would lead to accidents. We urge all drivers not to underestimate the effects of alcohol as it leads to impaired judgement due to drowsiness. Human life is precious and must be treated with the utmost care and respect.

As MDCT we continue to witness deaths, which could have been avoided if there was observance of the rule of law and its enforcement by all its agents. While the accident which happened at Rusape was on a good road and the West Nicholson was due to a bus that caught fire, there have been many accidents that have occurred due to bad conditions of the roads. We appeal, therefore, to the government to speed up the process of road maintenance and rehabilitation of highways immediately.

The MDCT mourns the bereaved families and pray that the Lord will both comfort them and provide for the families that have been left, particularly, the vulnerable children which include the girl child who is often not spared from the harsh challenges that accompany her in this sad situation. We also appeal to civic society and charity organizations to remedy the worst case scenarios of the children destined to this unprecedented fate. We also pray for those who are still hospitalized and wish them a speedy recovery.

MDC-T National Secretary for Information and Publicity
