News of the South HARARE – MDC A Vice President, Elias left Africa Unity Square in a hurried walk of shame this Afternoon after party supporters refused to be addressed by him just before the beginning of their demonstrations.
Mudzuri could not even recite the party slogan when he took the stand after being introduced by Organising Secretary Amos Chibaya as the crowds booed him and waved hands as a sign that he should go away.
He gave up the mic but to supporters this was not enough; they continued singing in displeasure against Mudzuri accusing him to be a traitor such that other party leaders failed to address them until he was escorted to his car.
Disgruntled MDC members on Monday called for the expulsion of Mudzuri from the party after attending a meeting at the State House with President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Parliament business.
MDC Youth Wing Secretary-General Lovemore Chinoputsa, on his Twitter handle called Mudzuri “a sell-out” and supping with the devil.
“This marks the end of the road for our Vice-President.
“You can’t keep defying the party time and again. By choosing Mnangagwa over the party, VP Mudzuri has effectively expelled himself from the party.
“It was a pleasure working with you Elias. Hamba kahle,” Chinoputsa said.
Mudzuri responded to these attacks in a statement saying he attended the meeting in his capacity as leader of the opposition in the Senate under the Parliamentary Standing Rules.
“It is with sadness and unfortunate circumstances that my fellow junior parliamentarians would want to play petty politics on something that’s part of my terms of reference as a party deployee.
“My confusion to all this stems from the fact that if what Idid is illegal to my fellow parliamentarians, then I want to understand what we are still doing in Parliament as party and wasting taxpayers’ money,” he said.
Mudzuri was again embarrassed by party deputy Treasurer and Secretary for Elections Charlton Hwende and Murisi Zwizwai respectively, earlier this week.
