Masvingo city is in for a treat of festivities during the launch of the Great Zimbabwe International Festival, newsofthesouth.com can reveal.
The historic town which has been lying dormant boasts of the famous historical monument, the Great Zimbabwe ruins.
The GZIF which will be held sometime in September this year, with events such as arts, music,crafts and food fiesta characterising the 3-day long function.
The GZIF would be used as a launch pad in attracting both local and international tourists in marketing the country’s domestic tourism.
Prior to the main function slated for 28 -30 September there will be a launch in the United Kingdom in May and a local one that will be held in Harare and Masvingo in June.
In a statement Eugene Majuru who is one of the organisers, highlighted that the Great Zimbabwe International Festival was an initiative coined after the realisation that the historical monument had been neglected yet it has the potential of boosting Zimbabwe’s tourism sector, creating employment for Masvingo residents, developing the area and boosting business.
“I came up with the idea after realising that Great Zimbabwe was lying dormant for quite some time yet it has the capacity to boost Zimbabwe’s tourism sector.
” The 3-day event will be held in four stages. The first stage will be held at Great Zimbabwe monuments on Friday the opening day and Saturday will be second day with Sunday the closing day.The monuments grounds will also host the arts, crafts, music and food expo.
“The second stage will be a family event at lake Mutirikwi which will host a beach party on Saturday till late afternoon.
“The third stage will be in the city centre and it will host Masvingo’s first ever street party until late night.
“Fourth stage is Miss Great Zimbabwe Festival beauty pageant and it will be open to all Zimbabwean ladies,” the statement read.
There will also be the Miss Great Zimbabwe beauty pageant 2018 which is open for all Zimbabwean ladies.
She reiterated that the revival of the Great Zimbabwe’s world heritage site was critical as it would catapult the coming in of tourists and the ease-of doing business in the country.
Through this initiative Majuru noted that it would lead to the development of the local area, boosting business and creating employment to the Masvingo locals.
Great Zimbabwe is a ruined city in the south eastern hills of the country near lake Mutirikwe and the town of Masvingo. Great Zimbabwe ruins is one the best tourist attraction places in Zimbabwe.
