Harare, Zimbabwe(News of the South)-Zimbabwe People First (ZPF) leader Joyce Mujuru has dismissed from the party a group of founding members that include Didymus Mutasa and Rugare Gumbo on allegations of working against the party.
The shocking move has thrown further doubt on the supposed coalition of opposition parties going towards 2018 as intra-party divisions continue to reign in Zimbabwe.
In a statement released by her office Mujuru said the members had become stumbling blocks who were stalling the progress which the party has been making.
Those listed as expelled are mainly her fellow former ZANU PF members Didymus Mutasa, Rugare Gumbo, Margaret Dongo, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti and retired Colonel Claudius Makova.
Mujuru also expelled Luckson Kandemiri and Munacho Mutezo.
“As a party we have decided to take stern measures against elements determined to stall the progress that the party has been making. As a result we have decided to eject some of the colleagues and comrades we thought would stand with the People’s cause but have chosen to be agents of the regime”.
“All sorts of tricks, ranging from coup d’etat and sophisticated infiltration, have taken centre stage with a view to delaying the People’s cause of unequivocal liberation”
We assure Zimbabweans that more heads are going to roll in this revolutionary cleansing exercise”.
We remain committed to the democratization of Zimbabwe. We remain committed to liberating Zimbabweans in totality”, she said.
The move has already received the support of two major provinces of Harare and Bulawayo which have released statement of support.
The party’s Harare Province Chairperson Munyaradzi Right Banda said they supported the move taken by Mujuru and were in full support of coalition talks.
“We stand with our President Dr JTR Mujuru as Harare Province and have no doubt that elements that have been stalling progress and delaying the hopes of the masses of building a truly democratic movements that will unseat ZANU PF and bring true freedom to the suffering citizens and bring about the birth of a Zimbabwe with equal opportunities for all”, he said.
Unconfirmed reports however state that the expelled members have also come out with their own expulsion of Mujuru with Ray Kaukonde earmarked to take over the Presidency of the party.
This latest happening will come as bad news to the many opposition supporters and members who have been rooting for a united ZPF to unite with Tsvangirai’s MDC-T and form a coalition that has been hypothetically said to possess the ability to remove ZANU PF.0
