Carlo Ancelotti’s men registered their 20th consecutive victory with a comprehensive 4-1 trouncing away at Almeria in a La Liga fixture played last night, as they head to Morocco for the Club World Cup on the best-ever streak in the team’s history.
Since losing back-to-back Liga matches against Real Sociedad and Atletico de Madrid early in the season, Madrid have now gone for 20 straight wins in all competition, to set a new club record. They have also broken Barcelona’s 2005-06 record of 18 wins.
This success begun with a 5-1 win over Basel in the Champions League on September 16 and since then it has been wins for Los Blancos. They registered victories against Deportivo La Coruna, Villarreal, Elche, Ludogorets (twice), Athletic Bilbao, Levante, Liverpool (twice), Barcelona, Cornella (twice), Granada, Rayo Vallecano, Elba, Basel again, Malaga, Celta Vigo and Almeria last night.
Their win over Almeria came at a good time as they prepare to partake in the Fifa Club World Cup hosted by Morocco and coach Ancelotti is aiming to scoop the prize.
“We are only thinking about winning it,” said the Italian gaffer.”Just like any other competition. But the atmosphere and the moment are good.We will go there full of confidence.I think the Club World Cup comes at a good time for us.”
Real Madrid will fly to Morocco on Sunday looking ahead to be crowned World Champions, and they are the favourite to land the crown.
