Zimbabwe, Harare. (News Of The South) – The year 2014 was crucial for Zimbabwe Cricket for it had great memories remarkably the answering of the prayers of many, the resignation of one of the longest `servants` of the game Peter Chingoka earlier this year and of course the famous victory over the Aussies only to be iced with a shitty performance in Bangladesh that left us all in awe and quite frankly hopeless.

The resignation of Chingoka was an emotional moment for most of us for once we thought the much awaited return of our beloved game was at hand but ever since his resignation we look at our game and nothing much has changed it is all just case of old wine in new bottles.

The Chevrons now not only lack the ilk to not only play competitive cricket and go toe to toe with the best in the game but they now also lack the passion for game. But if we could just rewind back ten years in time to April 2004 when the boys went on strike and we started this whole rebuilding process most of us complied with the whole process not out of consent but quite frankly we had no choice.

So looking at a rebuilding process that started off with the principle or rather the main ethic which governed the whole process was to take the game in unforeseen territories and discover new talent and this seemed a noble idea.

So we had the youngest Test captain with the rest of the team ranging from its late teens to early twenties and we had young energetic players.
So as we draw close to the end of the tenth year since Zimbabwe cricket embarked on a rebuilding campaign ZC which has since left us pondering if we are even good enough or as Dean would say, `it was all a damp squib`.

Most of the players presently in the team is the same lot we had ten years after we started this whole thing and apart from showing that they have the potential they have not managed to knock on to being World beaters even though they had more than enough time to mature with our support.

The win over Australia which some will see as a fluke was all but a reminder of the fact that the boys have great potential for at the end of the day it was a cricket match in which the better team on the day won the match. I remember chatting with my Indian friend on twitter telling me how much they loved Zimbabwe Cricket for we have the potential but what we need is a little bit more stability.

Now we look back and we realize that we backed a ship whose captain, who had promised to lead us to the promised land, was the first to fall on his own sword after this whole enlightening experience had only left him with frustrated and a couple of remarkable wins which constantly reminded us all that the boys can go toe to toe with the World`s best but the big question is how.

ZC is governed by a bunch of policies and unless those policies are overturned we can have a host of different leaders failing to implement change because this is more than just race issue it’s the policies which have been created to govern ZC whereby players are picked on their color and some perks they would have indirectly contributed to the team and not on sheer talent.

As we enter into 2015 the World Cup is coming and at the rate our game seems to be plummeting there is no point for us to continue crying foul over the wasted decade for its already boring the game itself to death but what Zimbabwe Cricket needs at the moment is to revise or rather repent form its unjust and racist policies which have led to the death of our game.

It is a no brainer that what led to the failure of what at first seemed like a determined process were the policies which created a hostile environment whereby one either has to comply or hit the road Jack.

What type of an organization refuses its former players the chance to coach the national team? As it stands our former players prefer coaching Pakistan Bangladesh over ZC and it shows that unless the policies which govern ZC are changed then there is no hope for a couple of wins or a change of a some positions will certainly not do the trick. We do not need new names in the team for they are all but just a pats on the back but it is the core of the organization itself which needs a complete overhaul then after that we can focus on developing our talent.
