MILTON MASHASHA Sports Reporter in Byo,Zimbabwe.

A powerful header by Tafadzva Sibanda in the first half and a goal each by Gabriel Nyoni and Newman Sianchali in the second half ensured Highlanders fc a clean sweep over their bitter rivals Dynamos fc.

Highlanders fc started the match on a higher note forcing Dynamos to back peddle.Bosso played purposeful football, passing the ball around and Dynamos were made to chase shadows and they were envoloped on their half most of the time. The midfield quartet of Highlanders that is Denzel Khumalo,Nigel Makumbe,Brian Banda and the gritty Adrian Silla made life difficult for their opposite numbers who failed to copy their tempo in the middle of the park. The dreadlocked Highlanders lone striker Tafadzva Sibanda kept the Dynamos rearguard on toes.

In the 11th minute Gabriel Nyoni won a corner kick after an attempt to clear by Phakamani Dube, the corner kick was taken precisely by Nigel Makumbe. The ball was whipped into the box and was met by Tafadzva with a powerful header beating the Dynamos goalminder Chinani in the 12th minute to give Highlanders the lead.Three minutes later Denver Mukamba tried to fool the referee taking a dive outside the 18yard box and was shown a yellow card for simulation.
It was in the 17th minute when Kudakwashe Kumwala disposed Tendai Ndlovu who failed to clear the ball when he was the last man in defence, the lanky striker raced towards the goal with Aerial Sibanda advancing to narrow the gap,Kumwala missed the target when it was easier to score than to miss giving a sigh of relieve to the entire Highlanders team, technical bench and the supporters whereas adding misery and agony to the Dembare faithfuls.

Two minutes later it was Denzel Khumalo who headed over the bar from close range. The Dynamos right back Peace Makaha then tried a spectacular long range short but Sibanda was equal to the task punching the ball for a corner which Dynamos failed to utilize.
Aerial Sibanda came to the rescue again for Highlanders in the 30th minute when he punched the ball to safety from Denver Mukamba’s corner kick.

On the other side Chinani produced a fantastic save when he tiped over the bar Tafadzva Sibanda’s effort. The match went for a breather Highlanders hanging on to a 1-0 slender lead but were totally in control of the proceedings, possessional dominance.

A few minutes after the resumption,Highlanders fc hardman Adrian Silla drove a powerful shot from about 35meters which was hot to handle and the Dynamos goalie did well to tip it over the bar for a corner which was then wasted. In the 51st minute Gabriel Nyoni met a beautiful cross from McClive Phiri but he misdirected his header over the bar.

Two minutes later Nigel Makumbe tried to thread a grounder from outside the 18 yards box but his shot went wide.In the 54th minute the Dembare stand in coach Joseph Takaringofa then pulled out Marvelous Mukuumba and he introduced the diminutive midfielder Brett Amidu.Six minutes after the latter’s introduction he nearly earned Dynamos a penalty after he was bundled down in the Highlanders 18 yards line by the impressive Mbongeni Ndlovu, fortunately the referee pointed for a set piece outside the area.

The Dynamos captain who struggled the whole afternoon took the responsibility but his effort was diverted by the wall for a corner kick.

Takaringofa then made another substitution in the 63rd minute bringing in Emmanuel Mandiranga for the ineffective Quality Kangadze who was just passager.A few minutes later Tafadzva Sibanda came close to double Highlanders lead but his effort went off target.

Blessing Moyo was then shown a yellow card for a foul on Peter Muduhwa who was trying to venture upfront on a counter attack running solo towards Dynamos’s half.Gabriel Nyoni missed a glorious chance again in the 74th minute.A minute later Takaringofa then made his final change bringing in Panashe Mutasa for the seemingly tired Denver Mukamba who failed to perform as anticipated.Madinda Ndlovu then made his first change pulling out Nigel Makumbe and introducing the hard running veteran Newman Sianchali.

In the 80th minute the substitute Sianchali made his presence felt when he won himself a corner kick which was quickly taken by Adrian Silla. The ball was sent into the Dynamos crowded box and Gabriel Nyoni made no mistake headed home in the 81st minute to double Highlanders lead celebrating his birth day in style.

It seemed like the game was over on a 2-0 scoreline but alas the Highlanders players had other ideas,Gabriel Nyoni received the ball after quick counter attack, raced towards the Dynamos goal area instead of pulling the trigger he turned from his marker and squared the ball to the on rushing unmarked Newman Sianchali who coolly controlled the ball raised his head and fired home a powerful rising shot past the exposed advancing Chinani in goals for Dynamos on the 92rd of injury time to put the final nail on the coffin.

It was indeed a massive humiliation for the biggest club in the land inflicted by the oldest club in the country.Highlanders has again completed a double over their fierce rival after the 10 winless jinx was broken by Eroy Akbay their former Coach.
