Sarah Brooks a Briton from Lincolshire was attacked when the car she was travelling in was trampled and overturned by a raging bull elephant while travelling through South Africa’s Kruger National Park on December 30.

Brooks happened to be was on safari with her partner, slowly following the animal down a road.

The incident was filmed by tourists in the car behind who saw the elephant stop walking and turn towards the car.

The elephant approached the car from the side and rolls it over and over, leaving it crushed, with the couple inside.

The tourists in the car behind who did the filming are clearly shocked and distressed and heard to say: “Stop the car … reverse, reverse, they’re going to die.”

They urge their own driver to reverse and get out of the angry elephant’s way.

‘Of course they were totally frightened but also thankful that they were alive,’ William Mabasa, general manager at the park.

‘The elephant had to be put down. Since it was in its musth phase, the elephant had gotten into a fight with another dominant bull before and was very aggressive,’ said SA National Parks spokesman Ike Phaahla.

The couple were taken to hospital for treatment, Brooks suffered some injuries sustained when the elephant`s tusk broke into the car.

The couple have since been discharged. see video below
