Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of the South) – Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, mobile money service provider, EcoCash has launched Swipe into Ecocash product in partnership with Steward Bank aimed at deepening electronic transactions in line with the agenda of the national payments under the central bank.
Speaking at the launch, Ecocash General Manager Natalie Jabangwe-Morris said Swipe into Ecocash product allows a holder of any bank card in Zimbabwe that is Zimswitch enabled, swipe funds into EcoCash wallet.
“You might be a Barclays or Standard Chartered bank customers that have not connected to EcoCash, now we have inter-operated with our customers quite off integration at core to core level because of our connectivity into the Zimswitch platform.
“It means that with Swipe into Ecocash, any bank card holder which is Zimswitch enabled, you are able to swipe your funds into Ecocash.
She said the new product is aimed at addressing cash crisis, retailers are facing in their day to day business.
“With Swipe into Ecocash, an agent (Retailers) no longer need a float to run the EcoCash business. To our agents we have cut down on the cost of doing business, there is no need to invest any money upfront with Ecocash.
“We know some of you are retailers and you have been facing really a tough time in what we call the return on investment conflicts.
She said there are going to partner more banks in order to increase the distribution of Post machines around Zimbabwe.
“In partnership with Steward Bank, we have the largest network of Post distribution in the country as we really wanted to drive the product and we will be adding other banks.
She said the new product is part of the Sustainable Development Goalsinitiatives aimed at making Zimbabwe world class.
