Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)- The Philip Chiyangwa led Confederation of Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) has extended an invitation to Morocco to come and present its proposals towards its bid for the hosting of the 2026 World Cup.
The North African nation is caught in a two horse race with the United States of America for the competition to host the 2026 World Cup.
In a letter directed to the association the Secretary General of Cosafa Sue Destombes said the Morocco Bid team had to present before the Cosafa associations.
“Further to our previous communication and more recently to the President of COSAFA Dr Phillip Chiyangwa’s visit to Morocco last week and in accordance with his request, we hereby formally invite Morocco 2026 Bid to make its Presentation of Morocco’s Bid for the FIFA World Cup 2026 to the Member Associations of COSAFA.”
“Kindly advise at your earliest convenience, when you would like to make this Presentation to enable us to make the logistical arrangements,” he said.
Morocco has a strong chance of clinching the hosting rights for the soccer showcase 8 years after South Africa became the first African national to host the football extravaganza.
However its lack of ready infrastructure against the outstanding stadia already present in the US could pose a challenge.
