MUTARE, Zimbabwe. (News Of The South) – Sungura maestro Hosiah ‘Vapange’ Chipanga played a number of his old songs to the delight of his fans during a show at Beit-hall in Mutare last month.
Chipanga was very distinctive with his Secretary Bird Dance and lead vocals, bringing fans in the auditorium to the dance floor, as he belted out songs such as Pfuma Huru and Kwachu Kwachu among others, while his dancers mesmerized fans with thrilling choreography.
Excited fans also sang along to hits such as ‘Gushungo’ and ‘Zvichandibatsirei’ left fans clamoring for more.
Hordes of fans braved the chilly weather currently being experienced in the Eastern border city and came in their numbers for some moments with ‘Sahwira Wenyika’, as Chipanga is fondly known.
The show torched some emotions when Chipanga sang the ‘Pfuma Huru’, a song that depicts a woman who lives by her husband during bad times.
The show saw Afro-Jazz musician Bob Nyabinde sharing the stage with Chipanga . His hit song ‘Chabuda Hapana’ kept fans on their toes. He also played hits like ‘Zvinoita Hope’ and ‘Samanyika,’ much to the delight of the fans.
The emotional show was dedicated to Rebuild Sakubva, a non-profit making organisation, which is on the drive of giving the Sakubva community a new image from that of being associated with hooliganism over the years.
In an interview, Rebuild Sakubva Executive Director Lucy Nkomo highlighted that they organised the memorable show so as to give the youngsters an opportunity to share the stage with veteran musicians in the mould of Bob Nyabinde, the duo of Peter and Jerry Mparutsa of the Runn Family as well as Assegai Crew, now being fronted by Joseph Makureya, the only surviving member of the original band once fronted by the late Stobert Chidikano.
“We have organised the show to give our youngsters an opportunity to self introspect their talent and sharing a few notes with other successful musicians who have seen it all in the music industry.
