(News Of The South) – Amongst every sportsmen is the dream is that they would one day be recognized by the multitudes for keeping them up on their feet every time they enter a stadium or be the turning point in a match and to also make a living out of what they have always loved which in most cases is just but a fairytale to Africa.

The mass departure of sportsmen from Zimbabwe has been mainly attributed to the poor administration of the sports and the diminutive chances of having a successful sports career at home but an interesting fact is that after crossing the tide some players then decide to abandon their home country forever deciding against playing for their home country being assimilated with their resident countries all in the name of greener pastures.

What greatly surprises me is that this migration of players has not only affected the poorer nations but it has also been found affecting the more established nations which then poses the question if this is still all in the name of better chances and economic chances or they just plainly have a traitful strait in them.

A betrayer is one who turns their back to a person or object that had put its faith in them and one considers themselves betrayed when they have been left hanging.

Africa contributes a vast number of players in the major leagues but this does not stop the majority of them to remember that they indeed have a place they call home and are loved even by those who have no idea of the sport they are playing with the sports enthusiasts feeling compelled to understand the sport more so that they may get a full understanding of it and hence enjoy it more.

The crossing of the tide has seen many unknown sportsmen becoming national heroes overnight albeit their support base doubling when they start playing in a nation which is not only passionate about a particular sport or just sport in general has a respect for sport.

We can either blame the player`s agent but as we all know the players themselves have to first ascribe to the fact of being assimilated into a foreign nation and virtually abandoning their home country.

This has sadly affected most countries if not all and though we might blame the greater recognition chance and better economic conditions one then feels compelled to ask if that was the same case in the likes of Imran Tahir, Kevin Pietersen and also the likes of our very own.
This swings both ways for even in the sporting structures we also have our very own Sikander Raza Butt and a few guys who left their countries too.

For argument`s sake let us consider the players reasons for as true as it is that the players will get far more recognition playing outside Africa (with the exception of South Africa) and that they will of course get a far much better and as has become the norm that what has to be done has to be done for one to eat.

It is also equally annoying that it is no longer surprising to hear cases of maladministration (though Zifa does not seem to amuse me) and this as well chases away the players for surely no one wants to be stuck in an airport or be involved in the madness that is entwined with travelling with the national team which is the reason why most foreign based players would rather forego travelling with the rest of the team in favor of meeting up with them at the destination.

A confirmation that most of the players themselves begin to regret their decision is the constant hand one lends to their home country but is this really out of love or is it that they are just basically trying to make up for the mistake they made which yielded success muddled up with the guilt and identity crisis of being a traitor. Such as in the likes of Tendai Mtawarira who really surprised me in the way he hung on to his Zimbabwean passport even though he plays for the Springboks.

With various sporting organizations agreeing that one can change to play for their resident country after representing their home country at junior levels opening up this whole process.

A huge difference occurs between simply playing in another country for this not only polishes up one`s skills but also improves the welfare of the players themselves and making the decision to relinquish the citizenship and deciding to play for the country permanently for they then renounce their representation of their home country and with our new political constitution accepting dual citizenship coupled with the poor sports administration, this certainly initiates an exodus like never before.

It is a great improvement but it greatly hurt me hearing that our nation could build a full strength rugby squad from just the nations which were participating at the 2011 Rugby world Cup in New Zealand a few years ago.

When one elevates their career to play in a larger league and they are then not affected economically by the goings on in their home country and even if they have to board their own plane and represent their country it should be made clear that it is a national duty to represent the country and those petty reasons surely does not hinder or improve one`s financial condition by much. What then baffles me is when a player not only decides to play for their home country even though they already have what they always wanted.

One harsh reality is that when they have been fully incorporated into the systems they then forget that they do have a home which their origins are and it hurts me hearing a host of Zimbabweans reveling about the successes of Dereck Chisora he does not own up to that mere fact. What more is the dire straits that our local boxing league is in yet he does not even give a fiddlers fart about it

As like as chalk and cheese, poles apart we have passionate sportsmen like Vitalis Chikoko, Luke Steyn , Shayne Makombe, Bradley Pritchard and an avalanche of sportsmen who are humble enough to represent our nation.

Even across our boarders they do exist you name them for the foreign based players outnumber them greatly though special credit has to go to the West African footballers for surely it took a lot of patriotism for the likes of Victor Moses to ditch England to play for Nigeria you name them.

These so called great sportsmen who defied all odds by breaking into the national structures not only sold out our nation but they do not deserve the respect they have always enjoyed amongst our sports but should be viewed as brilliant players of the game who are also worthy of the tag deserters.
